Changed Site

Well I finally have the site migrated over. I can honestly say the testing was the hardest part, several weeks fiddling with problems on the test server, and when we went live, only one minor hiccup which I’m glad to say Tim from Hostpapa reminded us…check file permissions. Doh!
Now that this is done this comes with good news and bad news. First the good news.
<good news>
- I’ll probably post more, hurrah.
- Better comment support. As I came to realize with geeklog I was going to have to use a user login mechanism to ensure fairly decent comments. I hope to have a better system now.
- Improved xhtml support – Should improve the overall look of the articles.
- More pertinent extras for future addition. Less Filling And Tastes Great(er) with any luck.
- Better media linkage and support.
- Less headaches ‘just posting’ stuff. (hoping)
</good news>
<bad news>
- Everything ported over fairly well, however a few articles have some extra characters. Nothing I’m too excited about fixing unless I have nothing else to fix.
- The images (pictures) did not port, so I’ll have a look at this soon.
- If you had an account that is active, it should be working but I cannot confirm if the passwords will still work. If you cannot login, try resetting your password. If this does not work, send me an email (from here works too).
- If you did not have an account, you may have your comments posted as “anonymous”. It’s also possible that your comment post is no longer here. I’m trying to see about fixing this, but a couple considerations need to be made first. I just want everyone to know that I didn’t intentionally delete them.
- Some of the posts look funny(ier) than before. In some ways it’s likely they’ll stay that way. In most cases it’s not a bad oops. Its on the todo.
</bad news>
Please feel free to send me any reports of problems, not that there are that many (other than what I posted above, and of course all the outstanding stuff to do, add, change, etc.) things.
