To clarify, I call any PC which a user sits at, that has the traditional keyboard, mouse and display a desktop PC.
I cannot fault the author of that article because it is simply true. You can convert users, but over time without good constant support from a real person they are likely to move back to Windows.

I try to avoid software thats end of life but occasionally I get stuck with a few programs that just don’t have any updated versions or are tied to a piece of hardware that I need to use. LCDC is software designed to run little LCD displays you can buy for your computer. I have one in particular thats over 3 years old now but still runs great. However it hasn’t been updated well ever.
Today I took to scanning my PC and discovered that some of the plugins for LCDC were infected. I decided to check the web site http://www.lcdc.cc/downloads.htm for updates, it didn’t appear off hand that any were actually updated, but it does appear that some are not infected and others still are.

Well it appears they were not really screensavers or themes after all. Instead they were DDoS related Malware.

This command below should remove the offending scripts for an infected machine. DO NOT run this unless you know you are infected.
sudo rm -f /usr/bin/Auto.bash /usr/bin/run.bash /etc/profile.d/gnome.sh index.php run.bash && sudo dpkg -r app5552

If you are using Rythmbox and having trouble with getting windows shares to work, I found a neat workaround for this. I am using Ubuntu 9.10 Karmic Koala which uses Gnome Desktop, and found a pretty simple solution, courtesy of launchpad.net which is the site where all bugs related to Ubuntu or any packages tracked back upstream can be filed, and hopefully solved. This bug isn’t specific to Ubuntu or Gnome, but is actually a bug with Rythmbox. You can read the bug at the link in this article, or simply follow these instructions.
From a shell or terminal (to open on click on “Applications” then “Accessories” then ‘Terminal’) copy and paste the following:
gnomevfs-ls smb://mywinpc/mymusic
Make sure before you hit enter to change ‘mywinpc’ to the actual NAME of the PC your share is located on, and ‘mymusic’ is changed to the name of the share your music is found. This step will then display some output and tell you to then enter the username to login, the WORKGROUP name, and of course your password. Once done it will majically mount the drive for you.
Now you should be able to start Rythmbox and select ‘Import folder’ and find this location readily available.

If you’ve attempted to upgrade your Java from Sun and encountered this error, you probably were left scratching your head, The link to Sun’s Help Resources have no effective solution at the time or writing this, it simply states:
